Teachers' Notes

The Word on sex, life and relationships is an information resource on sex and sexuality for young people, especially of secondary school age. It has been designed to support sexuality education both in the home and in school programmes.

It is also for those young people who do not have access to an effective school programme or who are not able to talk to supportive adults about sexuality.

As with all aspects of the Health and Physical Education curriculum each school will need to determine how The Word best fits into their health programme. The booklet and Web site could form the basis of a unit of work on sexuality or could be used as an adjunct to an existing programme. The booklet could be used as a class set during a lesson or given out to students at the end of a programme.

There are many resources containing classroom activities that are suitable for use with The Word. The following suggestions are to give teachers some ideas for activities from FPA resources that link with topic areas in The Word. All the resources mentioned are available from the FPA Online Shop.

The Online Bookshop also has a full list of Teaching Resources.
