National Certificate in Contraception and Sexual Health (NZQA Level 4)

Objective

This course offers registered nurses an opportunity to gain knowledge and develop skills in contraception and sexual health.  The course is divided into two modules and includes an opportunity to gain clinical experience.

Content will include

  • Anatomy and physiology of Male and Female Reproductive Systems
  • Hormonal and non hormonal contraception
  • Legal and ethical responsibilities
  • Cultural perspectives
  • Sexuality
  • Sexually transmissible infections
  • Youth issues
  • Pregnancy options
  • Fertility and infertility
  • Post coital ECP

Course fee

FPA has received MOH funding to provide free courses on Contraception and Sexual Health to:  Registered Nurses, Independant Midwives, Public Health Nurses and Medical Practitioners, who are employed in Primary Health and / or GP Practice.  As places are restricted the MOH has established a hierarchy for priority access as follows:

  • Maori nurses/doctors working for Maori providers
  • Non Maori nurses/doctors working for Maori providers
  • Pacific Island nurses/doctors working for Pacific Island providers
  • Non Pacific Island nurses/doctors working for Pacific Island providers
  • Maori nurses/doctors working for health service providers
  • Other clinicians working in the community

- Please note: Closing dates for registration are 6 weeks prior to commencement of the course.

- Please complete the registration form before the closing date.

- You will be told within one week of the closing date whether your enrolment has been accepted

Participants must hold either a New Zealand Nursing, Midwifery or Medical Registration and a current practicing certificate.

There are a limited number of fee-paying places available to Nurses and Midwives.

Cost of courses are available on request.

FPA require a $100 administration bond per person, per course, to secure a place on a free course.  This will be refunded in full to participants when they attend or if cancellation is received 2 working days prior to the course.  To cover administration costs, regrettably no refund can be made less than two working days prior to course.
