Supported by FPAID and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Hope and Dignity Images of Life uses photos from Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam to explore the impact of HIV/AIDS on the lives of men, women and their children. The exhibition was opened at Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre in Upper Hutt on 12th July 2004 by Associate Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage Judith Tizard, where it showed until 29th July 2004. Arrangements are now being made to tour New Zealand, beginning with a display of part of the exhibition at Parliament between 15th - 22nd September, in the executive wing foyer. Watch this space for further touring details. Simon took the exhibition photos while participating in an FPAID study tour organised for MPs from New Zealand and the Pacific, which took place in April. The tour focused on HIV/AIDS, including issues such as soaring rates of infection among women and increasing numbers of AIDS orphans. The tour also provided an insight into the links between HIV/AIDS and poverty - the vulnerability of the poor to infection, and the way in which HIV/AIDS deepens poverty. Three members of the New Zealand Parliamentarians' Group on Population and Development (NZPPD) participated in the study tour. Media release >> Report from tour particpant Steve Chadwick MP >>
